Feedback – eBay Neutrals ARE NOT negatives… on August 19th

August 13, 2008 by Scott Pooler

Yes Yes Yes….

Thanks for listening eBay, Neutrals should be just that… Not negative, Not positive… Just, well… Neutral!

Glad to see you actually see things the way the rest of the world does in reference to the word “neutral”.  I mean, where would Switzerland have been during WWII if Neutrals were counted as negatives?

Speaking German for awhile I would wager….

Anyway, I digress… So very glad to see eBay is reversing this ill conceived plan,

Thanks Lorrie Et Al…

Brian Burke

Hi everyone… this is Brian Burke, Director Global Feedback Policy. Last month, Lorrie Norrington announced that we would be recalculating Feedback percentages without neutrals. Neutrals, whether left in the past, or those you might receive in the future, will no longer be counted as part of the Positive Feedback percentage.

The recalculation is scheduled to take effect next week on August 19th, before the next PowerSeller eligibility deadline. So, neutrals will not impact PowerSeller eligibility for August.

I’ll update you next week when this change is complete.

Sincerely,
Brian Burke
Director, Global Feedback Policy

Finally, eBay has seen the light with respect to neutrals. Thank you eBay. It takes courage to admit you were wrong and correct the situation. Kudos to eBay!

You don’t change the rules in the middle of the game.

This “ill conceived plan” as you put it Scott, hurt a a number of consignment sellers whose livelihood depends on their eBay feedback score to get new consignment customers and to attract buyers.

    • Ut’ Oh eBay… Google enters eCommerce – Best Match or Best Darn Search – You decide
Why oh Why eBay, did you not think of That! Hmmmm - maybe eBay can sign up for Google Commerce Search and scrap this whole "finding" experiment... Maybe with Google Merchant Center Search installed on eBay.com, the term Best Match might actually mean that the best product matching the search terms entered will be presented.
